Mallards, Ring-necked Ducks and American Wigeons

Phoenix is fed by a network of canals that you can see as you fly in to town, or if you are driving around. These canals are fed by a series of reservoirs; some dammed and some natural. A bunch of us friends get together frequently at Granada Park and run along the canal. It is mostly a dirt path and a very comfortable flat track. We see athletes of all shapes and sizes, bike riders and dog walkers along the canal.

It was chilly this morning when we started on the run. I recently bought a Columbia Sportswear “baselayer” top that I was wearing. We started south on the Canal from Granada Park towards the Biltmore Hotel and then did the Biltmore circle loop before turning back, going beyond Granada (north) for a couple of miles (totol of about an hour – 7 miles). There were lots of ducks in the canal. I saw a few Mallards, Ring-necked Ducks and American Wigeons frolicking about in the water. The chill apparently didn’t bother them.

The run was followed by a scrumptious breakfast at LGO (La Grande Orange); I had the Commuter Omelette with bacon and goat cheese. If you are ever in Phoenix, I recommend it!

Last night, I pumped the stability ball and cut the nylon rope into 8-foot pieces. I have to start working on my core strength and my hamstrings. Both need a lot of help…
