Beware the headphone flange

I started my 1-hour run from my office at around 4:15PM today. It was a warm, sunny afternoon in North Scottsdale. I had a smooth level 1-2 run planned looping through the Cactus-FLW neighborhoods.

At about the 30-minute mark, a white SUV pulled up next to me and the driver rolled down his window and started talking to me. I figured he was asking for directions. I looked over and yanked the earphone out of my right ear, only to realize that the flange was still stuck in my ear and the rest of the earphone was in my hand. I carefully pulled out my left piece so I could hear his questions, and gave the guy directions. The right piece was still stuck in my ear. With the heat, I was sweating quite profusely making both my hands and the flange quite slippery. I struggled to get it out. I needed tweezers as my nails are not long enough. After wiping my hands a few times, and struggling for a few minutes, I was finally able to pry the damn thing out of my ear. I breathed a sigh of relief, put my headphones back on and finished the run.
