Running on empty

I ran in the afternoon for 31 minutes. It was laborious. My breathing was heavy, my heart rate was up, my body had no memory of how to run smoothly. I could barely muster up 9-minute miles with an elevated heart rate near 160. That’s a full 2 minutes per mile slower than I can normally run at this heart rate. Ridiculous!!

In my frustration, I exchanged emails with Bill (my coach). A combination of illness and de-training will result in slow, laborious runs; even short ones!

I can’t wait to get back to 100% so I can run and actually enjoy it.
