Tomorrow is race day. I will run the PF Chang’s Half Marathon in Tempe, Arizona. Last year, I didn’t have the best of races. Tomorrow, I hope to pay attention to my heart rate, pace and nutrition. Last year, I had issues with my heart belt coming off, my nutrition falling down on the ground and starting out too fast. I hope to not make the same mistakes tomorrow. Of course, there are a thousand things that can go wrong; we’ll see what transpires.
I have decided to wear a loose top for tomorrow. It will be chilly. I may wear a long sleeve skin underneath and carry gloves. I’d rather not run with gloves but that will be a game-time decision. I plan on eating around 300 calories at 4:30AM including a banana, peanut butter and a Kind bar. I hope to get to the starting line around 7:30ish. The gun will go off at 7:50AM. I am in corral number 2. I feel pretty good about the race.
As for my training today, I did the customary 20-minute pre-race-day run with 3 x 30-second sprints. I also got a haircut. Some of the world-class triathletes get a haircut the day before the Kona Ironman. I know Crowie does. I have no idea what the logic behind this is, but if it’s good enough for them, it’s good enough for me!
