This morning, my left ankle hurt a bit worse than it did yesterday but by evening it was already starting to feel better. I’m quite sure it will be fine by Sunday. Needless to say, I rested today.
It was about a year ago that I was hospitalized with all my medical issues. A year ago today I blogged about my extreme difficulty breathing. I got progressively worse as the days progressed until I ended up in the ER and ultimately the ICU with a pretty severe case of Pulmonary Embolism. Eventually, I came out of it pretty healthy but have been on blood thinners (Xarelto) for about a year now. Any trauma or internal bleeding especially in my head or chest cavity would be very dangerous for me; hence I don’t bike outdoors.
Next week, I go in for a bunch of scans and tests to see if I can get off blood thinners. If all goes well, I will come off Xarelto and start biking again. The ultimate goal of course is to do another Ironman, and then another, and then another. Most people don’t get why we live and love this crazy lifestyle. If you have to ask “why” you obviously don’t get it!
